Self-Portraits: “The Greatest”

Once I wanted to be the greatest
No wind or waterfall could stall me
And then came the rush of the flood
Stars at night turned deep to dust

(Song excerpt from The Greatest by Cat Power)

One lazy, hot weekend which turned out not so lazy anyway when I decided to clean my cameras. It has been ages that I touched them for cleaning. I’ve oftentimes took them for a shoot and returned immediately afterwards without cleaning and I’m afraid that they might get spoiled because of my laziness.  I checked my lenses and I kind of miss using my 35mm Nikkor lens and decided to try it out in my Nikon D60. I also decided to remove the strap. My Nikki looks a little nude without the strap, it feels like it has breathe a lot of air. LOL! It weighs lighter than before, feels lighter than before if I may say (as if the strap weighs a ton.. lol)

After I cleaned my gears I suddenly felt the urge to take some self-portraits and portray what I had been feeling the past few days. I feel a little discouraged and at the same time hopeful on the inside (sometimes!). I can hardly explained my emotions actually and I just want to express it through my self-portraits. (which I have not done for quite long now, so please bear with me.. ^^,)

I recently got in love with a unique voice of Chan Marshall of Cat Power and while doing some work I listened to her playlist in Youtube. “The Greatest” reminds me of not giving up.

Melt me down
Into big black armor
Leave no trace of grace
Just in your honor
Lower me down
To culprit south

Make ’em wash a space in town
For the lead
And the dregs of my bed
I’ve been sleepin’

Lower me down
Pin me in
Secure the grounds
For the later parade

Once I wanted to be the greatest
Two fists of solid rock
With brains that could explain
Any feeling

Happy Weekend!
